Electrical Epilation
The electrolysis method of hair removal uses a direct galvanic current to produce a chemical action, which destroys the hair follicle. The chemical process occurs when the galvanic current is applied to tissue salts and moisture contained inside the hair follicle and skin tissue, causing a chemical reaction resulting in the root of the hair being destroyed.
This is a slower method as the chemical reaction takes time to develop and continues working after needle is removed.
Puberty
When puberty is reached- this varies greatly from person to person – large amounts of hormones are secreted into the bloodstream. The hypothalamus sends a releasing factor to the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland.
The androgens are responsible for the production of hair in the large areas. If there is an excess of androgens and a hereditary sensitivity to the androgens, then excess hair may develop. If the correct balance of oestrogens and androgens is restored after puberty, then the superfluous hair will probably disappear.
Pregnancy
The ovaries secrete large amounts of oestrogen during pregnancy and there will be an increase in androgens to maintain the balance. Any excessive in hair growth usually affects the upper lip, chin and sides of the face and it is only accelerated vellus hair , which if it is not tampered with will probably disappear after childbirth.
Menopause
Some women may find superfluous hair appearing mainly in the area of the upper chin, under-chin and lip. This occurs when functions of the ovaries slow down and they are less responsive to the gonadotrophic hormone, resulting in a decrease in the amount of oestrogens being secreted.

As a result of treatment and the heat produced, there is an increase in blood supply to the area which will cause an erythema. This expected reddening of the skin will vary in intensity depending on the client’s skin sensitivity and the intensity of the current used.
Contraindications:
- Any diseases of the skin which may be infectious as there will be a high risk of cross-infection.
- Acne vulgaris is a condition affecting adolescents and is caused by a hormonal imbalance. This may also cause the growth of superfluous hair. if the infection area is treated, the infection would spread and further aggravate an already inflamed skin.
- Herpes simplex. Because the virus may be spread to other areas.
- Sunburned. Will be a risk of hyperpigmentation with treatment.
- A heart condition or the presence of a pacemaker in the heart.
- Epilepsy. The stress of the treatment could bring on an attack.
- During pregnancy.
